The picture looked great, however I couldn't get HDR to work since the advanced setting for color space defaulted to RGB 8-bit Rec. I initially setup the display resolution for the recommended 4K 59.940Hz. I've been using the new Shield TV for about a week now and overall I am very pleased with this device, however there are some things that Nvidia needs to fix:ġ.
Having to go to the Plex Server side to setup recordings is a hassle, zero WAF in that. Now if there was an easy to use DVR for it that would be great. My TiVo Roamio has a much softer, less detailed picture.
The Fire TV was great but the 4K picture wasn't great to me, I think that the Shield does much better at 4k, it can control video output in the standard menu and their development team answered my questions on Twitter directly, then offered me an early fix for an issue you mentioned above.Īll that said, I'll give you the 1080p and 720p scaling stinks, although I do get a great picture on the HDHomeRun channels. The Premiere+ can't convert streams to DD because it doesn't have the license so they force you into buying the Ultra no matter what. The only way to adjust video output to 4.2.0 at 10 bit is with a 'secret' decoder ring menu and the default is 4.2.2 at 12 bit, which I suppose will be available sometime in 2025 or something. That's interesting, because the Roku Ultra has been a turd for me when dealing with 4k and HDR.
